Changing a camera's recording mode (from event-based to continuous or vice versa) has an irreversible impact on the existing archive. The archive is not deleted in full instantly, but it is trimmed to the new mode's limit — everything beyond that limit is permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
This is because different recording modes have different archive depths — even within the same subscription plan. Event-based recording stores more days, while continuous recording stores fewer, since it consumes significantly more cloud storage.
Practical example:
- You have a PRO subscription, mode — event-based recording (30-day limit). You have accumulated a full 30-day archive.
- You switch the mode to continuous recording (7-day limit).
- The archive is trimmed: only the last 7 days of old recordings remain. 23 days of archive are permanently deleted.
⚠️ Important. Before changing the recording mode, make sure you do not need old recordings beyond the new limit. Download important video clips in advance — once the mode is changed, deleted recordings cannot be recovered.
If you are unsure which mode suits you better — we recommend first evaluating your needs and only then switching. For most scenarios (apartment, office, retail store), event-based recording covers the requirements with a more-than-sufficient archive depth and consumes fewer resources.
